This should always be done before the hospitalization through your local municipality’s children and family department or via borger.dk.

If it is not done before the hospitalization, there will be no possibility of getting lost wages covered by the municipality.

The workplace typically compensates for the first four weeks of sick leave, after which sick pay can come into play if you are a member of an unemployment insurance fund (A-kasse) and are entitled to sick pay.

You should talk to your boss about what is called a § 56 agreement, according to the law on sick pay. If this is granted, you can take sick days for acute needs, and your workplace will be compensated for the lost wages for all your sick days.
